I keep hearing from conservatives that we can’t hurt business with higher taxes and regulation because they are the ones who create jobs, so it’s just shooting workers in the foot to attempt to help them through levying taxes on business or more stringent business regulation.
Do you buy that or do you think that it’s not people trying to sell things that creates jobs, rather it’s the consumer out there in the marketplace deciding to buy this or that.
Anyone who has actually owned a small business, or managed a store for a medium or large chain can tell you that you hire more employees only when you need more help to make or sell whatever you make or sell. It’s simple math. If hiring an additional worker can increase your revenues by more than what it costs to train and pay that worker, you hire that worker. However, if your customer base is not growing, it is usually more profitable to invest any extra money elsewhere.
